Man Dies After Essex Crash

Police say a 48-year-old man has now died at Basildon Hospital after a crash in Aveley.

The collision happened in when a silver VW Polo and a blue Nissan Micra struck each other on Sandy Lane shortly before 6:30am on Monday, September 26.

The casualties from the Micra were on the grass verge after getting out of the car when two of them were struck by a white Vauxhall Astra which had tried to avoid the two damaged cars.

The female driver of the Polo sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Astra and the three other Micra occupants were uninjured.

The other two, a 48-year-old man from Tottenham and a 56-year-old man from Wanstead, were both conveyed to Basildon University Hospital after sustaining multiple injuries.

The second man is in a stable condition.

A section of the road was closed for approximately six hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries and the vehicles recovered.

Five people were originally arrested in connection with this incident and two of them were later released without charge.

Two people from South Ockendon, a 30-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man, and a 37-year-old man from Newham in east London are on police bail until Thursday, December 15 pending further enquiries.
