Police are at the scene of a fatal road collision which happened on the A12 in the early hours of this morning (Thursday, October 30).

It happened on the north bound track between the Boreham and Hatfield Peveral junctions at around 3am.

It involved a pedestrian, a man believed to his 20s, who was in collision with a number of vehicles. Ambulance crews attended but sadly the man was deceased at the scene.

The northbound A12 will be closed whist forensic examinations are carried out. Inspector Scott Egerton, of Essex Police Roads Policing Team, said: "This is a tragic incident where a man has died. The road will have to be closed for a number of hours during the rush hour but this is so important forensic recovery work can take place so we can find out how he died. Motorists are asked for their patience and understanding during this time."

The A12 is closed northbound between Boreham and Hatfield Peveral. Diversions are in place but motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible. One lane of the southbound track of the A12 is also closed which is causing delays.

Any witnesses to the collision or anyone who can help with any information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on Essex Police 101 or email collisonappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk
