Man Due In Court Over Chelmsford Murder

A 31 year-old man is due in court today charged with murdering a woman and attempting to murder a man in Chelmsford.

Police were called to reports of someone being assaulted inside a property on Pines Road at around 1.30am on Sunday (17 April).

When they got there they found a woman dead and a man with "serious, life-threatening injuries".

A 31 year-old man was arrested and has now been charged.

Essex Police said: "Craig Bird, aged 31, of no fixed abode, has today been charged with the murder of Colleen Westlake, aged 48, and also the attempted murder of a 59-year-old man.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates Court".
