A man who stabbed his mother to death in Maldon has been made the subject of a hospital order.
26 year old Javid Ahmed attacked Amina Begum - who was 47 - in Fambridge Close in March 2016.
A post mortem examination showed she'd suffered 37 knife wounds in the attack.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Chelmsford Crown Court on August 24th.
At the sentencing today, Judge Charles Gratwicke said: "The investigation established that at the time, Mr Ahmed was acutely unwell and that his mental capacity was significantly impaired."
He was detained under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act to receive treatment. He was also made subject of a section 41 restriction order, which means he will not be discharged from hospital until the Ministry of Justice has agreed to his release.
