Murder Investigation After Southend Flat Fire

A murder investigation has launched after a pregnant woman who was seriously injured after a flat fire in Southend, died in hospital.

Emergency services were called to a block of flats on Balmoral Road at around 11.15pm on Saturday (7 May).

Essex Police said: "The ninth floor of the premises was evacuated while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A 30-year-old woman from Southend was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.

"Sadly she died yesterday evening, Monday May 9.

"The fire is being treated as suspicious and police are investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident.
