New Parking Bays For Colchester Car-Sharers

Drivers into Colchester - willing to car-share - can now park in more dedicated town-centre car-parks and pay less for parking.

18 new dedicated "LoveUrCar" car sharing bays (5 in Borough Council's car parks), are available from this week for pre-registered users to take advantage of.

St Mary's, St John's, Priory Street, Vineyard Street and Britannia car parks are hosting the spaces, at some of the most popular locations in each site.  Car sharers will benefit from quick and easy access when arriving and leaving and for the short walk in to the heart of the town centre.

To use the bays, motorists simply need to complete a simple one-off online registration in advance, including details of their car share companions at www.loveurcarcolchester.co.uk

Both existing and new car park users, either paying the daily rate or holding a season ticket can apply.  The Loveurcar permit simply needs to be displayed in the vehicle on each parking stay.

The Loveurcar branded bays have been introduced by the Council, working in partnership with the Colchester Travel Plan Club.  It follows the popularity of previous '2+' bays in some Council car parks and is the next stage in the Loveurcar project to encourage greener and more fuel efficient driving.

Colchester Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Housing and Public Protection, Cllr Tina Bourne, said:

"Introducing these Loveurcar car sharing bays is the Council latest commitment to encourage sustainable travel, tackle congestion and air quality, and improve our car parks. Car journeys can be green and sharing with a friend, family member or colleague is a great way of achieving this, and saving money too.

I encourage existing car sharers and those considering sharing to complete the simple online registration at www.loveurcarcolchester.co.uk to use the bays, whether for regular or occasional trips."
