No Charges Against Men Arrested Over Maldon Rape

Two men arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in Maldon have been released without charge.

The woman, who is in her 20s, was walking away from the Tesco supermarket in the Fullbridge area when she was approached by two men in the underpass on Mill Lane between 5.45pm and 6.15pm on Saturday.

She was then dragged into nearby bushes and attacked.

Two men were arrested on Monday but have been told no charges will be brought against them.

Officers cordoned off the area while they investigated and remain at the scene carrying out searches adn follow up calls from members of the public.

DCI Simon Werrett said: "We are grateful for the continued support of the local community. We have received a substantial number of calls from members of the public which we are following up over the next few days.

"It is likely that the person responsible would have returned home with a muddy Superdry coat or trousers. If anyone saw this, I'd like to speak to them."
