The Chief Constable of Essex Police has told Heart the investigation into the murder of Nahid Almanea is one of the force's largest ever.

The student was killed in broad daylight  in Colchester exactly three months ago.

No-one has been arrested yet but Stephen Kavanagh says it is an extensive investigation: "We've got thousands of exhibits, we've sent officers to Saudi Arabia, we've had officers in from Norfolk and Suffolk, we've had officers in from London with specialist dogs.

"My search teams conducted the biggest search of any murder we've encountered."

The Saudi Arabian student was living with her brother at an address on Woodrow Way and they regularly walked together to University. On June 17 lectures had started earlier and so she was walking home alone. attacked while walking on the Salary Brook Trail and stabbed 16 times.

It had been reported she was targeted because of her Muslim dress but Essex Police say they are keeping an open mind about the motive.

Mr Kavanagh says the force are committed to finding the person responsible: "We've seized thousands of exhibits, we're going through CCTV, we've got dozens and dozens of detectives still working on this.

"We will work our hardest for as long as we have to to give the best chance of justice."
