Pool Repairs Delayed

Repairs to the outdoor swimming pool at Brightlingsea have been put on hold so that people can use it over the summer.

Tendring District Council's delaying the £42,000 repair works after realising it wouldn't be finished in time for the start of the new season in May.

TDC - which runs Brightlingsea Pool in Promenade Way - will now finish the work after the site closes in September.

Stephen Mayzes, TDC's Cabinet member for Leisure, says it makes sense to hold off from starting the work now.

"We would not want to jeopardise the opening on May 28 and deny our residents use of the facility this summer by going ahead with the £42,000 scheme now,"

"Equally the pool is seen as an important tourism facility and it is important to have it open as an attraction for visitors to the town".

While the works are essential, they're not urgently required and can be carried out later.

The Council's set aside £90,000 for an overall refurbishment project, but it hasn't been decided how the rest of the £50,000 will be spent.

The council's waiting for a report on alternative ways of delivering all of its sports facilities across the District, including the Brightlingsea Pool.
