Protest At Basildon Land Sell Off

Campaigners in Essex are protesting against plans by Basildon Council to sell off open spaces to help fund the 38 million pound Sporting Village.

The council says it needs the money for the new centre at Gloucester Park - land could go at Felmores in Pitsea, Pound Lane in Laindon and Kent View Road recreation ground.

The council already has planning permission to build 73 new homes at the Kent View Road site - but are waiting on developers.

The Vange Community Group have put in a claim to the council for the site to get town green status - which if granted by the county Council, would stop any development from going ahead.

The march from Kent View Road starts at 11 this morning (Tuesday 22 February) and will finish up outside the council offices at lunchtime.
