Southend: Man Seriously Ill After Crash

A man has suffered serious injuries following a crash in Southend.

The vehicle he was in left Lifstan Way and collided with a tree at around 5.54am today (Friday 25 April).

Firefighters had to use specialist cutting equipment to free him from the vehicle.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "The man received life threatening injuries and the ambulance crews and doctor worked for over an hour to treat, stabilise and sedate the man at the roadside before he was taken direct to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel for further care."
