St John's Hospital evacuated because of fire

Fire crews evacuated St John's Hospital in Chelmsford on Thursday morning after 3 chairs caught fire in the waiting room.

We're told the fire was quickly under control and no-one was hurt.

Station Officer Mark Wilby, Officer in Charge, said: "Crews arrived quickly and dealt with the fire swiftly.

"The fire involved three chairs in the waiting room which were all well alight, causing heavy smoke logging in that room.

"The building, and hospital, had been evacuated so no one who was there was in any danger from the fire.

"Crews did an excellent job and it is thanks to their professionalism and hard work that this fire was dealt with this quickly."
