Baggage Scanners at Stansted to strike

Workers who scan baggage at Stansted Airport are to stage strikes over the Bank Holiday weekend this month in a row over pay.

Members of the GMB union employed by Mitie will take action from 3.30am to 6am and from 3.30pm to 6pm over four days from Friday August 23.

GMB regional officer Gary Pearce said: "Mitie are expecting GMB members to agree to the removal of premium rates for working nights or overtime worth 3.5% to pay for a pay rise of 2%.

"In spite of months of talks telling the company this was not acceptable to our members they went ahead and imposed these pay cuts from June."

The union said its 40 members voted by 92% in favour of industrial action.
