Stansted: Travellers Stranded In Security

Stansted Airport's apologised to passengers after loads missed their flights yesterday due to long security queues.

Heart's been told there were delays of up to three hours because the Essex terminal was under-staffed as a result fo the severe weather.

A Stansted Airport spokesperson said: "The adverse weather had a severe effect on Stansted Airport's operations, as it did at many other airports across the UK and Europe."

The airfield team worked throughout the night to clear snow and ensure the runway was closed for as short a period as possible.

"The snow fell most heavily when airport shift workers were leaving their homes to arrive at the airport for the first wave of departures on Sunday. This put additional pressure on our operational team and resulted in longer security queue times for passengers on Sunday morning. We immediately put in contingency measures and were able to get the operation back to normal from the early afternoon.

"We apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience they experienced at Stansted on Sunday morning."
