A woman has been made homeless following a fire in Stansted.

Three fire crews were called to Gilbey Crescent just after 3.30 this morning (Friday 8 November) to find that 10% of the mid terraced property was alight and that the whole of the building was heavily smoke logged.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a thermal image camera to assist in the search of the property to ensure no-one was inside.

They used two hose reels to tackle the fire and a covering jet to protect nearby properties.

The Electricity Board was called to isolate power and the incident was dealt with by 04:21 hrs.

A neighbour suffered smoke inhalation but did not need hospital treatment.

A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will be carried out to establish how the fire started.
