'Suspicious Package' At Southend Airport Harmless

Essex Police say a 'suspicious package' found near the entrance of Southend Aiport is harmless.

Officers were called at around 10.40am today after airport staff discovered a bag unattended on the roadabout near to the airport approach road.

A cordon was put in place in the area, closing the roads and a Ministry of Defence Bomb and Ordnance Disposal Team were called to deal with the package.

However, it was later found to be harmless with the bag containing nothing more than rubbish and old clothes.

Police lifted the cordon and roads in the area were re-opened shortly before 1pm.
