Two Men Arrested Over Maldon Rape

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in an underpass near Tesco in Maldon.

The victim, who is in her 20s, was walking along Mill Lane when she was approached and attacked by two men between 5.45pm and 6.15pm on Saturday.

She was dragged into bushes and raped.

She is being supported by specialist officers and police put a cordon was put in place around the area.

Last night, two men - a 23 year-old from London and a 26 year-old Maldon - was arrested.

They are now in custody and awaiting questioning.

DCI Simon Werrett said: "Maldon is a safe town to live in and I appreciate how shocking an incident like this will be to the community.

"I am working with the local policing commander to ensure patrols in the area are increased to both reassure residents but also to gather information about those responsible."
