Heart’s looking for teams of five women to join us in raising money for Cancer Research UK as part of this years Race for Life events.
There are six events happening across the county this year and we need teams of women willing to join us at each event in the county.
Heart's news mistress Michaela will be organising the teams, for her the event has special meaning since she lost her own mother to cancer 2 years ago.
Here she tells us why race for life is such an important event to get behind.
"When my mum died on the 14th October 2008 I felt like my whole world had collapsed. I’ll never, ever forget that awful day. I had just finished reading the 9am news and when I walked back into the newsroom there was a missed call from my parents house.
"I thought it was odd that they were calling me so early in the morning as I would normally only speak to my mum in the evening as mornings were not the best time for her.
"As I rang back I had the neighbours voice answer the phone, she put my dad on who just said in a broken voice “Mic I’ve lost her…” All I remember is screaming, the rest of the day is just a blur to me.
"Cancer took away my darling mum and I want to do everything in my power to stop other people losing their own mum’s so early. Race for life is such a great event to be involved with and although I’m always sad that mum is gone, doing something like race helps me do something positive for other people in her memory.”
Heart is offering places to 30 women to take part in Race for life this year at events across Devon all you need to do is tell Michaela why you want to join the Heart team and take part in this years race for life.
