Half as Many New Homes Being Built

Devon is falling further behind on providing affordable homes, because not enough are being built.

Julian Tuck's in charge of Westward Housing, who deal with affordable homes across the county: "it has to be of some concern that just a few years ago in the south west you may have been completing 5 thousand homes in a quarter - in the first quarter of this year there were less than 3 thousand."

New government figures show half as many homes were built here at the start of 2010, compared to the same time 3 years ago.

Julian says some affordable homes are still being built though: "the housing associations have managed with the aid of additional Government funding to be able to keep their programmes going to at least provide a certain proportion of housing."
