Malicious Calls More tha Halve

Devon's fire service has seen a 58% drop in malicious false alarms in the past year.

There were 141 in 2009/10 compared to 338 in 2008/09.

Group Commander Andy Revesz says it is vital these things don't happen: "a front line dedicated emergency response crew could be attending a malicious call when actually they are needed at another incident. That ties up an extremely valuable and important resource and at the end of the day is also a crime."

He thinks the decrease is down to a lot of hard work: "the increased awareness among school children who are predominant offenders for these calls, improvements in technology have allowed us now to trace calls but also our filtering system in our control room is a lot better now."
