The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is to take control of services in the East and West of the County.
It's hoped the move will give midwives more flexibility to work across the county, meaning more choice for mums-to-be.
Liz Redfern who is in charge of the service says it could mean longer opening hours in our community hospitals, "at the moment mums are choosing to go to Tiverton or Honiton or Okehampton and sometimes because of midwife shortages they are not able to have that choice honoured and this will make it much more likely that they can."
