Shock After Ram-raid In Dartmoor Town

Police are on the hunt for a gang of ram-raiders after a stolen 4x4 smashed through a shop window in a quiet country town.

Officers were called to the Spar store in Chagford, Devon, at around 3.45am yesterday morning.

After the Land Rover careered through the shop's front window, its cash machine was stolen.

Officers and a police dogs unit were deployed in trying to locate three offenders.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the crime had been "unsuccessful'' given the cash machine was holding "minimal amounts of money''.

A spokesman added: "However, the impact on the local community is significant and the damage to the business premises extensive.''

The vehicle, which was taken from an address in Moretonhampstead, was later found abandoned in nearby farm buildings.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via the 101 telephone number.

Those from outside the force area can dial 01392 420320.
