Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news, speech levels etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK's radio regulator.
This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community. Radio stations in the UK are regulated by law. The regulator is Ofcom, which awards licences and regulates content in accordance with the Broadcast Code.
Heart works to operate within all of the conditions of its licence and the Code and welcomes comments about its output from listeners and advertisers.

Saturdays between 17.00 and 21.00 are pre-recorded.
1. News Bulletin Schedule including which bulletins provide local news and which provide only UK-wide bulletins.
Heart (South West) broadcasts locally produced news bulletins hourly between 0600 and 1900 weekdays, and 0600 and 1200 at weekends. In addition to these, locally produced news, containing national content, is broadcast between 5am and 7pm weekdays. During local programming for Cornwall (weekdays 16:00-19:00) there are additional news bulletins at 16:30, 17:30 and 18:30. All bulletins contain a full mix of local, national and world stories, along with appropriate weather, sport and entertainment stories. At the weekend, news bulletins containing local, national and world news are broadcast between 0600 and 1200

5. The amount of local programming per day produced by the station.
Heart’s weekday daytime output (0600-1000) and (1600-1900) and peak time weekend (1300-1700 Saturday and 1200-1600 Sunday) output is produced and presented from our studios in Exeter with the exception of Toby Anstis, Nick Snaith, Simon Dale and Matt Wilkinson which is produced at various studios, owned and operated by Heart’s parent company Global Radio.
Off peak programming (Matt Wilkinson, Simon Beale, Emma Bunton, Jenni Falconer, Margherita Taylor, Steve Denyer, Mark Wright, Nicola Bonn, Roberto, JK and Lucy, Stephen and Emma, Big Top 40) is produced at various studios, owned and operated by Heart's parent company Global Radio.
Programmes presented on Friday between 1900 and 2100 and Saturday between 1700 and 2100 are pre-recorded. All other programmes are live.

Ofcom, the government regulator with responsibilities for local radio, has produced localness guidelines that this station adheres to. These guidelines can be read below.

8. Events/charities support or coverage
Have a Heart is Heart’s own charity whose aim is to make life better for disadvantaged children. Working with charity partners, it makes a direct impact on the lives of these children living in the areas that Heart broadcasts to. In previous years we have supported Starlight Children's Foundation, Children's Hospices UK & ChildLine. Please see the Have a Heart section of this website for details of who Have a Heart is currently supporting.
Have a Heart raises money through a variety of means, including the Have a Heart Appeal each Spring, overseas challenges, on-air fundraising initiatives and one-off events.
We also act as media partner and supporter Cancer Research's Race for Life . Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We promote Race for Life across each of our Heart radio stations, supporting almost 200 events and 500,000 participants.

We have recently hosted a question and answer session with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in Exeter and provided coverage to our listeners of the Olympic and Paralympic Homecoming Parade in Plymouth. We have also covered the Royal Cornwall Show, Golowen Festival, British Fireworks Championships in Plymouth, Exeter Food Fest, Torbay Carnival, Oceanfest in North Devon, The Devon Show, and Flavour Fest in Plymouth, We are currently official media partners for Plymouth and Exeter Christmas Lights Switch Ons, and have attended Race For Life events in Exeter, Torbay, Barnstaple and Plymouth.
