Sergeant Stephen Oliphant, who is leading the investigation, said:
“I would like to reassure the people of Hitchin that we are doing all we can to catch the perpetrators of this crime.
I would urge people to, where possible, park their cars in a garage or in another secure place and ensure, if you have one, that you activate your vehicle’s alarm.
If you keep your car on a drive, you could consider having a ‘dusk-till-dawn’ security light fitted at the front of your house and noisy gravel on your drive can help to deter any would- be vandal as they don’t want to alert you to their approach.
I’m appealing for anyone who has any information about these incidents to get in touch with me as soon as possible via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, quoting the relevant crime reference.
Alternatively, you can contact the independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their Anonymous Online Form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will never need to go to court.”
