Police have charged a man after another was stabbed to death in Bedford on Monday afternoon.

Ian Brunner, 47, of Byron Crescent, Bedford, has been remanded in police custody to appear at Luton Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Wednesday, 28 January).

The victim, who died in an ambulance outside the property, has been named as 39-year-old bachelor John-Mark Duffy. A post-mortem, which was conducted this afternoon, concluded that he died of a stab wound to the chest.

A statement released by his brother, Anthony, said: "John-Mark was one of the friendliest people you could ever meet; he'll be deeply missed by all of his family who loved him dearly."

Police continue to remind residents, particularly those in Ashburnham Road, Alexandra Road and Conduit Road, not to touch a knife or other sharp instrument if they find it discarded in their gardens, wheelie bins or elsewhere.

Anyone with information can contact police, in confidence, on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
