Ladies Day at Cheltenham
Ladies Day is now well established at Cheltenham ... and this year on Thursday 18th March it promises to be better than ever - especially in the fashion stakes.
First prize in the 'best dressed lady' competition is an Alpha Romeo Mito for a year!
It looks like Cheltenham are really trying to put themselves on the map as far as fashion at the races go. There are also prizes for Lady with the best hat and Lady with the best accessories.
You can enter on the day at the racecourse and there will be fashion scouts out and about looking for worthy entrants.
Heart’s Kate Justice is on the panel of judges and is a regular supporter of Ladies Day:
“The list of prizes for the fashion awards is amazing this year. I really feel Cheltenham is establishing itself as a big mover in the world of ladies racing days. We don’t have the weather that Ascot enjoys, so for Cheltenham Ladies it has to be about the coats and the boots… that’s what I’ll be looking for in my role as judge. Everyone I’ve spoken to about ‘what to wear’ says comfort and practicality is vital. On a windy March day, Prestbury Park is no friend to mini dresses and short sleeves…. But please do bring on the hats!”
There is also a fashion show, brought from Cavendish House and hosted by Kate to provide some pre-race entertainment.
Other highlights of Ladies Day this year include an award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Jump Racing by a Lady.' AND a ladies only charity flat race. It’ll take place after the last of the day’s races and include 12 well known ladies from the world of racing.
The chosen charity this year is Cancer Research UK and it’s hoped more than £100,000 will be raised.
Kate Justice spoke to Ladies Day Ambassador, Georgie Browne about the event, the fashion, the fundraising…. And a little bit about what Kauto Star and Denman are like at home. Georgie is the partner of their trainer Paul Nicholls….
