100 Million pound boost for Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire County Council have annouced a £100 million pound investment which they say will bring better infrastructure, skills and jobs to the county.

The package includes investment in high speed broadband, better road links, skillsfor young people and deposits for first time buyers. The proposal has been agreed by the Council Cabinet and will be put to full council on the 22nd of February.

Gloucestershire County Council Leader Mark Hawthorne said "I am delighted to announce this economic stimulus package, which shows that this council is committed to helping grow Gloucestershire in a time of austerity. Whilst we are working to reduce costs, we also have to invest in Gloucestershires future. Our priority is to inves in schemes that will keep young people - and talent - in Gloucestershire. As the county's biggest employer, the onus is on us to help deliver growth, create jobs and get the housing market moving.'

The package includes:

  • 7.5 million to bring in superfast broadband to rural areas
  • 10 million for the Cinderford Spine Road.
  • 1 million for deposits for first time buyers
