An 11-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car on a zebra crossing.

The incident happened at about 3.50pm on Wednesday in Fieldcourt Drive.

A green Honda Accord, driven by a 26-year-old man from Gloucester, was travelling from Naas Lane roundabout towards School Lane roundabout when it collided with the girl as she was crossing close to Overbrook Road.

The girl, from Quedgeley, was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. She was later transferred to Frenchay Hospital because of concerns for a head injury she had suffered. Her condition is currently described as potentially life threatening.

The road was closed for 40 minutes while the Emergency Services were at the scene.
