Gloucestershire Police say the Cheltenham Gold Cup has been stolen in burglary in Wormington near Broadway.

Officers were called to the scene at around 6.50 on Wednesday morning.

A number of high value objects were stolen, including the famous trophy, which is won during the Cheltenham National Hunt Festival in March.

Police say offenders forced entry to the address between midnight and 6.50am and stole a number of silver and brass items including horse racing trophies; the ‘Cheltenham Gold Cup’, the ‘Challenge Cup’ and the ‘Britannia Handicap Cup’. The combined value of the awards is believed to be over £150,000.

A new Gold Cup is cast every year and this particular trophy was won a number of years ago.

Bronze ornaments in the shape of a hare, a spaniel with a pheasant in its mouth and two horses being ridden by jockeys were also stolen, along with a dark wooden clock with gold sides and a gold mechanism, two silver trophies, a silver fisherman ornament and a cigarette case.

Investigating officers are eager to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area over night.
