Flood protection for water works

Heart has been told work on a second water supply for Gloucestershire will begin later this month.

The multi-million pound scheme was one of the ideas that came out of a local inquiry into the floods of 2007.

Now Severn Trent say the work will begin in the next couple of weeks.

This comes after plans were revealed for a new flood barrier around the Mythe Water Treatment works in Tewkesbury.

The water works site made the headlines in July 2007 when it flooded, cutting off drinking water to 350,000 people for 17 days.

A semi-permanent barrier has been in place ever since.
