Get In Shape For Race For Life

Tewkesbury Borough Council and NHS Gloucestershire are teaming up to expand the number of women's running groups in the borough.

Tewkesbury already has a group which meets every Tuesday at 7pm (beginners) and 6pm (improvers) - and up to 35 women take part each week.

The new groups in Bishop's Cleeve, which begin on Thursday, 5 May, will be split in to a group for beginners - who have no previous running experience - and a group for improvers, who should be able to run between three and five miles already.

The new beginners' group will run from 6pm to 7pm and the improvers' group will run from 7pm to 8pm. The 10-week courses are being launched in time to support women training for the Cheltenham Race for Life in July.

To find out more, or to meet the trainers who run the sessions, an information event will be held on Thursday, 28 April at 6.30pm at Cleeve Sports Centre.

Tewkesbury Borough Council's Leisure and Culture Manager Andy Sanders said: "Joining a running group is a great way for women to exercise in a fun and friendly environment.

"We want our residents to have access to a wide range of options for keeping fit and healthy - and this is another fantastic scheme which we hope to open up across the borough."
