Ice warning for Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire County Council’s gritters are preparing our roads as temperatures are set to drop again.

The 34-strong team are gritting A, B and some C roads and routes to emergency services such as hospitals and fire stations.

The rest of the weekend is expected to remain cold, but snow is not forecast at the moment.

Gritting teams will remain on standby over the weekend as temperatures continue to fall below zero.

As it will be extremely cold, there is a risk of ice on some roads so drivers should continue to take care when out and about.

Cllr Will Windsor Clive, cabinet member responsible for roads, said: “At the moment it looks as though the worst of the snow is behind us for the time being at least but it will still be extremely cold.

“When temperatures drop, there is the risk of ice and while Gloucestershire County Council does all it can to keep the roads safe, I would urge drivers to be responsible and take greater care if they are out on the road.”

The council has bigger salt supplies than ever at this time of year after opening two new salt domes – at Cannop and Stroudwater depots - which are fully operational.

The two new domes have boosted salt levels from 9,600 last year to just over 11,000 tonnes this winter.
