Police investigate hoax calls

Gloucestershire Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of making hundreds of hoax calls to the emergency services.

A 45-year-old woman from Gloucester was arrested at around 8.30 this morning on suspicion of abuse of the 999 system. She is currently being questioned at Gloucester Police Station.

Police launched an investigation last year into a total of 514 hoax or inappropriate phone calls made to Police and 434 hoax or inappropriate phone calls made to the Ambulance Service over a six-month period.

The woman has since been bailed - a condition of her bail is that she only dials 999 in a genuine emergency and if it is deemed that the situation is not an emergency she will be arrested again.
