Suspicious fire at Gloucester warehouse

An investigation is underway into what fire officials are calling a ''suspicious'' fire at a derelict warehouse in Gloucester on Tuesday night.

At its height, up to 30 firefighters were tackling smoke and flames coming out of the old Norville Works building in Tredworth.

Two crews were called out to the Hatherley Road area just before midnight, followed by three more later. 

As a safety precaution, police evacuated people from 30 homes and took them to the GL1 leisure centre. 

The fire service received more than 75 calls about the incident. 

Melbourne Street East, Matson Place and Tarrington Road at the junction with Hatherley Road are expected to remain closed for most of the day while a factory wall is made safe. 

Gloucestershire Police are are asking anyone with information about the fire to call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting incident 468 of February 21st.
