Things to do by the age of 12

Our children are being told 50 things they need to do before they're 11 and three quarters.

It is part of a new campaign by the National Trust to get children off the sofa and enjoying the great outdoors.

The checklist includes everything from running around in the rain and bug hunting, to setting up a snail race, damming a stream, flying a kite and making a mud pie.

Families can kick off their '50 Things' challenge over the weekend as the Trust opens up over 200 of our houses and gardens for free.
