Stroud residents can now have their say on where 3,200 new homes should be built.
The 15 year Local Plan has identified six key localtions in the district for the growth of housing and jobs until 2026 including: Hunts Grove, north east of Cam, west of Stonehouse, along the Stroud Valleys, Aston Down and Sharpness. Under the plan these growth areas will accommodate a total of 3,200 new hoes and encourage the creation of 6,400 jobs.
Councillor Barbara Tait, cabinet member for planning and environment for Stroud District Council said: "The work undertaken so far has identified that we must focus on these six key sites. For each of these areas a rnge of housing numbers and jobs has been proposed, for example 300 to 800 homes in the Stroud Valleys, and 200 to 500 homes in Cam. Having consulted before to get us to this stage, we now want people's views to helo us come to final figures within these large ranges. Ultimately they all need to add up to our requirement of 3,200 homes across the district. When it comes to housing virtually everyone agrees that we need more of it, but when it comes to identifying where it should go, it will always be controversial."
The number of homes and employment localtion under consideration are:
Stroud Valleys - potential brownfield sites between Brimscombe and Dudbridge and possible greenfield sites north and east of Stroud. 300-800 homes. Up to 1,600 jobs
North East of Cam - behind Draycott, east of the River Cam. 200-500 homes. Up to 1,500 jobs
West of Stonehouse - and and west of Oldends Lane/Stroudwater industrial area. 1,000-1,500 homes. Up to 3,000 jobs
Hunts Grove extention - Hardwicke. 500-750 homes.
Aston Down - Minchampton. 100-200 homes.
Sharpness. 200-250 homes.
