Woman Grabbed By Hair In Failed Robbery

The search is on for a man on a bike who cycled off after grabbing a woman's hair and trying to steal her handbag in Cheltenham.

Police say it happened one morning while she was walking to work along Pittville Circus Road.

She was crossing St Anne's Close when she noticed a man move into the centre of the pavement to block her way, who then demanded her phone and bag.

He grabbed her hair, causing her to stumble, and then tried to get hold of her handbag.

The man then cycled off along Pittville Circus Road towards Hewlett Road.

Police describe the suspect as white, around 20 years old, 6 feet tall, of skinny build, and with brown eyes.

He was wearing a plain black/navy hooded top which hid his hair, a black scarf with white writing and dark coloured jogging bottoms.

The mountain bike he was riding is described as dark blue, in good condition, and with white handlebar grips.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery, which occurred between 7am and 8am on Monday, 16th February, is being asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting Incident Number 42 of 16 Feb and crime number CR/3478/15.

Callers can also speak to Crimestoppers anonymously, if preferred, on 0800 555 111, or go through the Crimestoppers website.
