Events / Charities support

Have a Heart  is Heart’s own charity whose aim is to make life better for disadvantaged children.  Working with national charity partners, it makes a direct impact on the lives of these children living in the areas that Heart broadcasts to. In previous years, we have supported Starlight Children's Foundation and Children's Hospices UK. From October 2011 – August 2012 we will be supporting ChildLine , the free phone and online service offering advice and support to children who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn.

Have a Heart raises money through a variety of means, including the Have a Heart Appeal each Spring, overseas challenges, on-air fundraising initiatives (such as ‘Gain an hour, Give an Hour’, where we’re asking listeners to donate an hour of their salary or time to Have a Heart) and one-off events such as Have a Heart’s Quiz for Kids in Chelmsford which saw teams of local businesses competing against one another to raise money for our charity.

Heart Essex works closely with a number of local charities including Essex Air Ambulance, participating in the ‘Strictly Air Ambulance’ event each February and hosting the St Clare Hospice Midnight Walk in Harlow.

We also act as media partner and supporter for Cancer Research's Race for Life .  Cancer Research UK is the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We promote Race for Life across each of our Heart radio stations, supporting almost 200 events and 500,000 participants. In the Heart 101.7 area, these events are at North Weald Airfield, Epping and at Town Park, Harlow.
