A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was hit by a car in Gravesend.

Police were called to Dering Way in the town at 9.55am on Sunday following the incident. 

Minutes later police also received a report of a car on fire in the same road.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Officers attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service, and a woman was airlifted to a London hospital with a head injury not believed to be life-threatening.

"A man from Gravesend and who is known to the injured woman, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in custody.

"Inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
