Detectives have a charged a man with attempted murder following a fire and stabbing in Broadstairs.

James McDonald, 29 of no fixed address, was also charged with grievous bodily harm and arson.

Police were called to a house in Albion Road on Wednesday 21 September. The house had been badly damaged by fire and a woman had suffered a number of stab wounds.

She was treated by a neighbour. The woman is hospital in London in a serious but stable condition. Her daughter, 6, who was stabbed in the hand, and her son, 3, have been released from hospital.

Another mother, who lives in Ramsgate, has set up a fundraising page.

Sophie Wiggins says: "We're raising £1,000 for the children after the attack on their mum left them without anything after their house was burnt down.

"We, as mums ourselves, have decided we are going to try and help her and her children as they have lost everything. Donations of any kind I am sure will be greatly received."
