Sneak Preview of New Marlowe Theatre

Heart's been invited along to the topping out ceremony of the new Marlowe Theatre

Topping out is the ceremony to celebrate the placing of the top brick on a construction project.

The new theatre's costing £25.5 million to build and will open in the autumn next year.

The new Marlowe will have a 1,200 seat, state of the art auditorium with improved acoustics and sightlines, along with a second, smaller performance.

It means it will be the leading theatre in the South East - able to host big touring shows shows like Miss Saigon, which hasn't been an option in the past.

The Second Space which can hold 150 people seated or 300 standing, will be a facility for schools, universities and the community to use.

There will also be public areas throughout the new Marlowe, with foyers and bars on all three floors, a riverside walk, and a cafe, terrace and a piazza.
