Folkestone: Queen To Open New Visitor Centre
Buckingham Palace has announced the Queen is to visit Kent next week.
Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Capel-Le-Ferne, Folkestone to officially open The Wing, the new visitor and education centre at the Battle of Britain National Memorial To The Few on Thursday 26 March.
The £3.5 -million pound centre has been designed in the shape of a Spitfire wing, complete with its famous uplift.
It houses an audio visual attraction called The Scramble Experience which will give visitors an experience of what it was like to be one of Winston Churchill's famous "Few", the aircrew who defended Britain from invasion in 1940.
As well as The Scramble, the also features an education centre and cafe.
Her Majesty and Prince Philip will spend around 45 minutes at the clifftop site, meeting some of the last remaining members of the Few, and local school children.
The Royal couple's visiti will also be marked by a flypast by a Spitfire, Hurricane and Typhoon.
Later, they will travel to Canterbury to attend a service at Canterbury Cathedral.
