Man Charged Over Gillingham Attack

A 47-year-old man has been charged following an assault in Gillingham.

Anthony Charles, of James Street in Gillingham, was charged on 22 March 2017 with one count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and one count of possession of an offensive weapon (a machete) in a public place.

The charges relate to a reported assault in Mill Road, Gillingham on Sunday 12 February 2017.

A 28-year-old man suffered injuries to his head and body which required hospital treatment.

Two men and two women arrested in connection with the incident were released without charge.

Charles appeared at Medway Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 23 March where he was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 19 April.
