Margate: Man Arrested After Fire Death
A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a teenager died following a fire involving cylinders at a commercial property in Margate.
The 42-year-old was held following the fire in Bath Road which killed the man, named locally as 18-year-old Jarrad Swan.
Kent Police said in a statement following yesterday afternoon's blaze: "Detectives are currently treating the cause as suspicious.
"A 42-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and has been bailed until Friday 27 June, pending further inquiries.''
A spokesman for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance service said the victim died at the scene after suffering serious burns. A second person suffered injuries and was taken to the QEQM Hospital.
Four fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze, which took firefighters more than two hours to bring under control and damp down, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.
Hundreds of people have joined a Facebook page set up in memory of Mr Swan and tributes have been paid to him on Twitter.
One posted on Facebook: "Tragic way to leave this world and way too young. Sleep well young Jarrad and spread your wings and protect your family and friends.''
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
