Turner Gallery Reveals Opening

The Turner Contemporary Gallery will open April 16th 2011

After years of discussion and planning, The Turner Contemporary gallery will officially open the week before Easter next year.

The building which is costing £17.4million is situated on the seafront where JMW Turner used to paint sunsets.

This is what the people in charge of the project say;

'We aim to develop the gallery into one of the country.s leading visual arts venues, gaining a reputation for an artistically challenging programme that appeals to local, regional, national and international audiences. By succeeding in this aim we will draw new visitors to Margate and support the continued regeneration of the town.

A commitment to learning lies at the heart of Turner Contemporary. Our Learning and Public Programmes will concentrate particularly on engaging harder to reach audiences, creating independent visitors over time and ensuring that local people feel able to participate and engage in all areas of our work. By continuously generating new audiences, Turner Contemporary will drive positive change in our local and regional communities.'
