Pensioner Jailed For More Than 3 Years

A man who drove to Maidstone with the intention of committing child sex offences has been jailed for more than three years.

Peter Allan, 63, used dating app Grindr to arrange a meeting with someone he thought was just 13 years old. He sent a number of explicit images and offered to provide the boy with alcohol, a web cam and pornography. He then arranged to meet him in a car park close to Mote Park in Maidstone.

But, the boy didn't actually exist and the profile was part of a fictitious account. Allan was arrested the following day by Kent Police and told officers he knew he had done wrong but insisted he would not have taken things any further.

At Maidstone Crown Court Allan pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to arrange or facilitate the commission of a child sex offence.

He was sentenced to 3 years and 4 months imprisonment. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Constable Kieron Watts of Kent Police’s Public Protection Department said: "Allan claimed this was all just a fantasy and that he would never have gone through with the plans. However, the graphic detail he included in his messages was hugely concerning. He displayed a clear desire to sexually abuse a child and when he arranged to meet him also brought along alcohol.

"This case acts as a reminder to parents of children who have mobile phones and tablets to speak to them and help them understand the precautions they should take when using the internet, or the many instant messaging services that are available. Children should only communicate with people that they know personally and report any suspicions or inappropriate advances from strangers to their parents, schools or the police."
