A Sittingbourne man's been jailed for six years for setting fire to his own home and causing a massive explosion.

Alistair Gray, 39, admitted pouring petrol around the property on Recreation Way in Kemsley in April last year after his partner had told him she was leaving him.

The blast destroyed the property and killed a dog the couple owned.

The investigation was led by Mid Kent Police’s Area Major Enquiry team based at Sittingbourne Police Station.

DC Carli Davis said: "What Gray did was utterly reckless and it's a miracle there weren't more casualties. His actions destroyed two properties and affected a number of people who had to recoup the loss of their homes and personal belongings. The sentence given to Gray is justice served for what he did and I hope the people caught up in his actions will now be able to start rebuilding their lives."
