This was the era when perms and mullets were not only considered totally acceptable but oh so on trend! Welcome back to the lunacy that was 1980s hair dos.
Madonna did rock some strong 80s looks. This over-bleached half straight, half wavy do was all the rage at the time and lots of women, and even men, copied it.
We suspect the term 'a shock of hair' was invented for this hairdo. A sort of highlighted, finger-in-the-socket mullet!
Kylie Minogue's layered perm was a really popular style at the time and copied by women all over the world. Did you wear it too?
The heavy metal, guitar rock look was seen on many male musicians in the 80s. Every strand of hair was a different length, it was a little wavy, a little curly and often had highlights in it. Let's hope it never comes back into fashion.
We wonder how many tubs of gel Lionel Richie went through the 80s. He truly nailed that wet look...
We have three looks here with The Bangles. The two-tone hair, the curly with fringe and the bright red frizzy do. Oh dear!
Tina Turner sported the female version of the choppy, finger in a socket mullet. Longer, but as shocking!
Joan Collins sported quite the microphone hair in the mid 80s: short, curly and big, big BIG!
A bit punk, very layered, dyed a lurid orange. Oh dear!
Nobody did short feathered hair quite like David Bowie. It was considered really sophisticated at the time!
Sarah Jessica Parker epitomised the 80s girl and that long unruly curly hair was a very popular style for younger women. Picture: Rex Features
The shoulder-length corkscrew ringlet perm was considered quite fetching at the time, as modelled here by Glenn Close in 'Fatal Attraction'. Picture: PA
Heart's very own Jason Donovan's hair was relatively tame. He went for a lightened, combed back preppy look.
Feathered, bleached, long, short, mullets: each member of Duran Duran rocked a different 80s trend.
Michelle Pfeiffer liked that 'five cuts into one' look so popular at the time. Picture: Getty
