This is an absolute game-changer! (no pun intended...)
Ah Christmas. The time of year for family laughter and frolics - oh and that annual game of Monopoly which leaves everybody sulking.
It's almost like we have this weird need to get that board game out of the cupboard KNOWING that it's going to end in at least two family members brawling.
But it seems that, although it's a regular part of many Christmas Days up and down the country, most of us have been playing it wrong!
You know how when someone lands on a property, but doesn't buy it - then the game just moves onto the next player?
Well, it shouldn't - THIS is what should happen next:
When someone lands on a propertyin #Monopoly & they don't buy it, IT GOES TO AUCTION for any player to buy.— Ruben (@AskRubenHow2Bet) 20 November 2017
IT. IS. IN. THE. RULES.
And before you think that this isn't legit and give it an eye-roll - hang about - it states it clearly in the printed rules!
To quote: “If the player lands on an unowned property, whether street, railroad, or utility, they can buy the property for its listed purchase price. If they decline this purchase, the property is auctioned off by the bank to the highest bidder, including the player who declined to buy.”
It seems that this is a rule commonly overlooked, as other Twitter uses flooded the comments with their shocked reactions:
Holy MOLY! That takes strategy/risk taking UP A DAMN LEVEL! I am so down for this rule. Thank you for the tip off!— Kate Byard (@KateByard) 20 November 2017

So, now we are aware of this, maybe the annual game of Monopoly won't go on for hours on end, or end in an epic family feud?!
Perhaps, but this still doesn't solve the bicker over who gets to be the car, and who gets left with the wheelbarrow!
