Banning "Chuggers"

Charities could be banned from stopping people in the streets of Islington.

Coined from the words Charity Muggers, chuggers could be banned under a by-law at six locations in the borough.

Labour councillor Paul Convery wants an end to this kind of fundraising at Angel, Highbury Corner, Archway, Farringdon, Holloway Road, and Old Street.

He explained London's Heart why he thinks changes need to be made.

"A lot of people tell us - residents and businesses - they find this a really serious inconvenience. They feel they're harrassed, a bit threatened and annoyed and we think it is something that needs to be strictly controlled."
